Easter 2018: 10-centimeter of snow in the morning! Oh no. The snow is never ending this year. And then, all of sudden, the sun comes out and invites you to take a stroll in the afternoon. After a half-hour walk, we arrived in Crans-Montana, where we came across a folkloric demonstration. I was attracted by the sound of the dulcimer (Hackbrett), a sound I know well from my hometown, St. Gallen. Nicolas Senn, a famous dulcimer-player from Appenzell, was performing fantastically.
The Hackbrett is an ancient instrument from Appenzell, a region in the east part of Switzerland. This instrument is mostly used in the folkloric music of that region. In St. Gallen, where I grew up, I often had the chance to listen to all sorts of concerts from Appenzell. Nicolas Senn also integrates the Hackbrett into modern music, which gives a completely new direction to the instrument.
I’ll let you discover this musician on Youtube: Nicolas Senn, dulcimer
