Bisse de Trient

Are you looking for freshness? Go to the mountains and enjoy a lovely walk along with one of the many bisses in the Valais. I took these pictures from my recent walk along the Bisse of Trient. You start it on the Col de la Forclaz, on the road between Chamonix in France and Martigny in the Valais. The best period to go is in Summertime. Usually, it is a really easy walk but too early in the season, in May or even in June, when still some snow is around, there is a very small difficult place to go through, where you absolutely need good shoes and you better have no fear of heights !!!

“Built in the last decade of the eighteenth century, this bisse was constructed on an old railway line used to transport ice from the Trient Glacier to the Forclaz Pass. This ice was then exported as far afield as Paris. There are explanatory educational panels explaining the social organization and the irrigation rules along the trail.” (source: www.les.bisses-du-Valais.ch)
