It’s always a festival when it comes to the “desalp.” The cows, lamb, chèvre come down from the mountain, where they stayed the whole summer season.  It takes place around Mid-September each year.

Last Sunday I participated in Crans, accompanied by many folkloric groups like “sonor the cloche”, alphorn, “Fahnenschwinger”, songs. It’s a little bit different here than in other places; the animals come down the day before, then in the morning, they do the procession to the celebration. I was there around 10 o’clock in the morning; they were preparing the cows, arranging the flowers, putting together the groups of folklore, etc. The Umzug started at 11.20 h and took about 20 minutes up to the festif place. They prepare local foods, especially the Raclette, which you have absolutely to try. It’s so delicious!

The rain in the early afternoon surprised us completely and we had to leave the place quite early.

The “desalp” takes place once a year in September.
